The experiment: life on a swedish farm
We are Markus and Loretta and bought a yard in September 2009 here in southern Värmland (Sweden, municipalities Kristinehamn), as we establish ourselves in Sweden. Our dream is: to have the constraints of the city, the old habits and stress behind us. So we started our experiment, we focus on ecological small livestock, vegetable and fruit cultivation, and try to provide ourselves.
Food scares should not be longer of interest, the supermarket will be replaced of the freezer and the earth cellar. What Grandma knew is now interesting again: How can I make food durable? How do I cook jam, what do I do with all the vegetables, when the harvest period has come? What actually tastes own apple juice? What do chickens eat and how many eggs do they lay per year? What is „sik“? Why are cats too lazy to hunt mice? Are there any sheep that you must not shave? (Many questions I can not answer yet – but hopefully soon.)
Well, let’s be honest, you can not know all from one day to another, and generally give up everything you have. The supermarket will be and must be visited later on. Electricity, telephone, insurance and other things must be paid eventually. To sell some rabbits is not enough to survive.
